TYPES OF TEMPORARY RESIDENCY VISAS IN ECUADOR

Resident Persons

Article 59.-Resident. Are residents all foreign persons who have acquired a migratory category for their temporal or permanent residence in Ecuador.

Article 60.-Temporary Residence. Temporary Residence is the migratory category that authorize the stay of 2 years in the Ecuadorian territory, subject to one-time renewal to which foreign persons who enter the country enter under the following categories:

Worker: who is authorized to perform a remunerated activity under a relationship of dependence in the public, private or autonomous area.
Rentier: who has his/her own resources brought in from abroad, of the income they produce or of any other legal income from an external source or that has resources from Ecuadorian source.
Retired: who receive a pension from abroad whose amount allows him/her cover cost for his/her staying.
Investor: who has goods and economic resources of legal origin to carry out productive or commercial activities.
Scientist, researcher or academic: who is engaged in scientific, research or academic activities, contracted by public or private entities, or that are part of programs of the Ecuadorian education system to carry out works of his specialty. The residence permit may be renewed according to the duration of the academic program.
Sportsman, artist, cultural manager: who is hired by natural or legal people to carry out such activities.
Religious: religious volunteer of an organization with legal personality recognized by Ecuador, who develops activities of his religion.
Volunteer: who individually or with the support of a non-profit organization, altruistically and voluntarily, provides its services to the community in accordance with the regulations of this law.
Student: who enters the country to study basic education, high school, undergraduate or postgraduate studies as a regular student in public or private educational establishments, officially recognized in Ecuador, as well as for pre-professional or professional practices. The student stay permit may be renewed according to the duration of the respective academic program.
Professional, technical, technologist o craftsman: who enters the country to pursue a profession or technical, technological or craft activity, according to the norms of the law.
Resident by agreement: who enters the country protected by a type of immigration condition determined by an international instrument of which Ecuador is a party.
Persons protected by the holder of the migratory category: children, spouses or couple in union legally recognized of the holder of a migratory category provided for in this article.
People under international protection: persons who have been recognized by Ecuador as asylum, refugee or stateless person and who do not meet the requirements to access one of the migratory categories established in this article, may access the migratory category of person in protection international.

Article 61.-Requirements to obtain the temporary residence. Those are requirements to obtain the temporary visa.

Official documentation accrediting the category for which it applies;
Valid passport, travel documents or identity recognized through international instruments;
Criminal Background Check of the country of origin or in which has resided during the last 5 years prior to his arrival in Ecuador.
Not be considered as a threat or risk to internal security according to information provided by the Ecuadorian State.
Accredit the legal means of life that allow the subsistence of the applicant and his/her dependent family.
Payment of the government fee given by the human mobility authority; and,
Submit the Temporary Residency Application Form.
